Why you should stop smoking now
Around 106,000 people die prematurely from smoking related illnesses every year in the UK alone. Many smoking related deaths are not quick deaths and smokers can expect years of illness and distressing symptoms before they die. The younger you are when you start smoking, the more likely you are to smoke for longer and die early from smoking Even for those who do not develop a life-threatening illness as a result of smoking, quality of life can be impeded by shortness of breath and aggravation of other conditions, such as asthma.
Although the deadly affects of smoking may be invisible at first, one thing that you can’t help but notice as a smoker is the detrimental affects it has on your appearance. In 1985 the term ‘smoker’s face’ was added to the medical dictionary. The characteristics of a smoker’s face, which tends to make people look older than they are, was defined as lines or wrinkles on the face, particularly radiating at right angles from the upper and lower lips or corners of the eyes, deep lines on the cheeks or numerous shallow lines on the cheeks and lower jaw. A subtle gauntness of the features, with prominence of the underlying bony contours and a grey skin parlour. Sound familiar?
Statistics also show that as well as having stained teeth and bad breath smokers are up to six times more likely to develop gum disease than non-smokers, which can result in advanced decay and tooth loss. That’s the ugly reality of smoking that the advertisers failed to mention when they tried to promote smoking as attractive.
If you are smoking around 20 cigarettes a day, then you will be at least £2000 a year worse off, that’s £10,000 in just five years! Think what you could be doing with that money instead; taking your family on wonderful holidays, buying a new car, paying off the mortgage, saving for your retirement, because yes, you can enjoy a long and healthy retirement once you have kicked the habit for good! What’s more, the cost of smoking is constantly rising and, following the nationwide ban on smoking in public buildings, smokers are becoming increasingly polarised.
So there you have it. Smoking robs you of your money, looks and good health, and maybe, ultimately your life. But you know all this already, don’t you!
|A little tube of paper about the size of your little finger, stuffed with tobacco has ultimate control of your life. Are you satisfied with that?|
I know that quitting any long standing addiction isn’t easy, but I can also assure you that hypnosis, NLP and CBT interventions have been proven to deliver permanent results and at Lynn Ward Hypnotherapy, it is my aim to help you quit smoking for good, even if you’ve been a heavy smoker for several years. It is possible to become so educated and motivated that the deep inner part of your mind no longer sees ending nicotine use as a threat, so much so that you will be amazed at how quickly your body and mind recover from the madness of addiction.
Within 72 hours of your last cigarette, you will be 100% nicotine-free. With peak withdrawal now behind you, true healing can begin. Within 21 days your nicotine receptors will have reduced to levels seen in people who have never smoked.
One of the largest pieces of research* on the effectiveness of smoking cessation approaches (combining 600 studies covering 72,000 people) concluded that hypnosis is by far the most effective. Success rates were found to be:
Willpower alone: 6%
Self-help books: 9%
Nicotine gum: 10%
Nicotine Patches: 21% (based on 30 days. Yes if you quit for 30 days with nicotine replacement products they deem their products a success). What happens if you start smoking again on day 31?
Hypnosis 60%: – and combined with techniques, such as NLP and CBT, success rates can be over 80%. Indeed, according to New Scientist Magazine, “Hypnosis is the most effective way of giving up smoking, according to the largest ever scientific comparison of ways of breaking the habit. Willpower it turns out, counts for very little.”
*To find the most effective method to stop smoking, Frank Schmidt from the University of Iowa used a meta-analysis, utilizing the results of more than 600 studies totaling nearly 72,000 people. The results which were published in the Journal of Applied Psychology and included “48 studies of hypnosis covering 6000 smokers, clearly showed that hypnosis was three times more effective than nicotine replacement therapy.”
With only two session’s necessary, my effective, low cost, “Stop Smoking Programme” makes it possible for you to stop the exhausting battle with the cigarette butt for good.
During our first session, I will help you to get to the bottom of your smoking habit, harness the power of your unconscious mind to plant the seeds for change and success and teach you some cognitive/behavioural interventions that you may find useful. I will also provide you with a personalised hypnotherapy recording that will continue to motivate you whilst you make the change from smoker to non smoker. By our second session you will already have begun to notice some changes, and you will be primed and ready to become a non smoker. I will work with your own reasons and motivations for giving up smoking and will undo any unconscious locks and association between smoking and any other activities like socializing, drinking etc.
After embedding new patterns of thinking and behaviour based on what you want out of your life into your subconscious mind I will ensure that smoking is no longer relevant to your life.
