Does the thought of a visit to the Dentist fill you with dread?
Does even the mention of the drill give you that awful sick feeling in the pit of your stomach?
Are you suffering the pain and embarrassment of broken or decayed teeth, yet fear is preventing you from seeking help?
Do you long to experience the benefit of the latest cosmetic advances but dread the idea of undergoing protracted treatment?
Well relax, and take a deep breath, because with Lynn Ward Hypnotherapy you will soon be smiling with confidence!
Let’s face it few people actually like going to the dentist! Around 50% of people experience some anxiety whilst going to the dentist and debilitating levels are experienced by 5-10%, so you are not alone. Having a fear of dentists can have a serious consequence on your health and inner wellbeing. Your smile and your breath say so much about you, and play a major part in how confident you feel.
Sometimes it is not a fear of the actual Dentist but a fear of being trapped in the chair that is the problem. If you suffer from panic or anxiety, then you may be worried that you will be unable to cope with sitting still for an extended period. Maybe the thought of having a panic attack fills you with panic?
Perhaps you remember a past painful experience. Most of us can recall unpleasant visits to the dentists as children where everything was strange and frightening, and now, just the smell of mouth wash can make us feel vulnerable again. A fear of needles is extremely common, and prevents many people getting the treatment they need. It’s possible you have experienced pain at the dentist in the past, or had a particularly unsympathetic dentist treat you. Maybe you have scared yourself by listening to horror stories from other people that exaggerate every gory detail for dramatic effect!
For some the problem is a strong gag reflex. Are you physically unable to tolerate anything being placed in your mouth?
Don’t despair! Whatever is preventing you from feeling relaxed and confident at the dentist can be dealt with. By combining the wonderfully relaxing and calming effects of hypnosis with NLP and cognitive thought processes you will be amazed how quickly you make the change you need so that fear will never hold you back again.
At Lynn Ward Hypnotherapy you don’t have to be embarrassed about your phobia, or ashamed about the condition of your mouth. I understand the devastating effect this fear is having on your life.
Following my training as a Registered General Nurse, I worked as a Dental nurse at a busy surgery in Glasgow. I have experienced first hand the debilitating terror many patients experience when undergoing dental care. I’ve seen people running from the waiting room at breakneck speed, and I have even known clients faint from the sheer horror of seeing the Dentists chair! Of course the patients I saw were actually the lucky one’s who had, despite their fear, made it to the surgery (even if they decided to make a quick getaway!) Many more stayed at home, suffering in pain, silence and isolation.
For dental phobics, fear and pain become so intrinsically linked with a visit to the dentist, that even the thought of a routine check up fills them with dread. Often appointments are missed, minor dental problems ignored, and before long tooth decay and gum disease run rife. It’s a sad fact that by trying to avoid pain and fear, you are in fact ensuring it. No matter how hard you try to ignore that throbbing tooth, you know in your heart it will not simply go away. Pain is a warning that you ignore at your peril. It may abate for a short while, but you can always be sure of its return if the underlying problem isn’t dealt with. Don’t wait until agony eventually forces you to get treatment so that you repeat the viscious cycle of associating pain and fear with your dentist.
“Do the thing you fear most and the death of fear is certain.”
– Mark Twain
It doesn’t matter how long you have had the fear, or what caused it, you can learn to feel differently, and the wonderful thing is that it only takes one good experience at the dentist to wipe out all those negative associations and fill you with calm confidence forever.
The vast majority of Dentists are kind, caring and patient, and many realise the huge benefits that hypnotherapy can offer their clients. Sadly however the severe constraints placed on modern dentists means that even those who have studied hypnotherapy (and many do) cannot spare the time needed to work with individual patients. Can you spare the time to change your life NOW?
Imagine how good it will feel to have a healthy, clean mouth, and a smile you can be proud of!
